Follow the Search Jobs link and use the search tools to specify criteria.
Create a job alert
When you create a job alert, you are notified by email when positions are posted that match your specified criteria. Please be sure to select to consent to the “Opt In” option to receiving SMS and MMS (texts and emails). If you do not select this option, you will not receive email notifications for your job alert. To “Opt In” to receiving emails and texts, go to your candidate home page, click Update Contact Information and select the check box under the I consent paragraph at the bottom of the page. Click "OK" to save your changes.
- Log in to your candidate home account or create a candidate account if you do not have one.
- Click on "Job Alerts"
- Click "Create Job Alert" to enter your criteria
- Click "OK" to save
Apply for a job
Navigate to the job you are interested in and select Apply.
Submit a saved application
- Log into your candidate home account
- Scroll down to "My Applications"
- Click the "Active" tab
- Click on the "Job Title" active link or under Action, select the ellipsis
- Select "Continue Application"
- You can also delete or view any applications
Update a submitted job application
After you submit your application, you cannot change it. If you need to make changes to the application, email employment@iastate.edu.
*Please note that we cannot make changes to your contact information. If you need to make changes to your contact information, you can do so through your account settings.
Withdraw an application from consideration
- Log into your candidate home account
- Click "Candidate Home"
- Scroll down to "My Applications"
- Click the "ellipsis" for the position you wish to withdraw
- Select "Withdraw Application"
- Click "Withdraw" to formally withdraw.
*Please note that you can only apply for a position once so only withdraw if you are no longer interested in being considered for the position.
Create an Account
If you have not started searching the job postings:
- Click the "Sign In" link at the top right hand corner. Click "Create Account".
- Enter your email address (please use a current email address as this is how you will receive notifications and other communications) and create a password.
- Click "Create Account"
- Verify your email address by following the instructions sent to this email address.
From a job posting:
- Click "Apply" on the job posting
- Click "Create Account"
- Enter your email address (please use a current email address as this is how you will receive notifications and other communications) and create a password.
- Click "Create Account"
- Verify your email address by following the instructions sent to this email address.
Recover forgotten password
- On the candidate home page, click "Sign In"
- Click on "Forgot your password?"
- Enter your email address
- Click "Reset Password"
- If an account exists with that password, you will then receive an email with instructions on how to reset your password.
Update contact information
- Log into your candidate home account
- Scroll down to "My Account"
- Click "Update Contact Information"
Account termination
For your protection, your account cannot be deleted. You can stop using it at any time.
Applicant FAQ
All candidates must complete an electronic application through the Iowa State Employment Opportunity website at www.jobs.iastate.edu
No, there is no limit.
Most postings will be listed until the “guaranteed consideration date”, which can be found beneath the application instructions on the Iowa State Employment Opportunity website. If a position is posted on www.jobs.iastate.edu, you may apply to it. However, in order to receive guaranteed consideration, applications must be received and complete by the guaranteed consideration date.
The date by which applicants must apply for a posting if they wish to be considered. If a guaranteed consideration date is July 3, candidates must apply by 11:59 pm Central Standard Time on July 3.
We recommend you plan ahead as applications may not be considered after this time.
If the posting is available on the website for applications, then you may apply. If the guaranteed consideration date has passed, then your application may not be reviewed. Iowa State does not collect applications outside of the online application system.
If the position is not listed on the website, you will not be able to apply for it.
You will be asked to provide personal information, education history, and answer pre-employment questions such as prior Board of Regents employment and authorization to work in the U.S. based on the position for which you are applying.
Each time you apply to a position using the same login, you will be given the option to Autofill with Resume, Apply Manually or Use My Last Application. Please note that if you select Use My Last Application and do not upload a new cover letter or resume, the system will use the last resume and cover letter you used.
You will be asked to verify that the information is still accurate and, if not, you will have the opportunity to edit. You will also have to answer any supplemental questions, attach documents as requested in the Application Instructions of the posting and read the certification and certify and submit your application.
Yes, you will be able to save the application when you are applying for a specific position, you may save and return later by clicking “Save Changes.” Please remember that unless you complete the application process by the guaranteed consideration date your application may not be considered.
Edit your application
To edit the application before submitting, log into your candidate home account with your username and password. Click on “Candidate Home” and scroll down to “My Applications”. You will see your active and inactive applications, the status of the applications. Under “Action”, you can select to continue the pending application, view the application or delete the application.
Click “Save Changes” on each screen until you get to the end. On the final screen click “Submit” to submit your application.
Please note that once you submit your application, you will no longer be able to edit your application.
After the position closes, you will no longer be able submit your application or view the job description.
Each application is active until the candidate is notified through their Candidate Home page that they are no longer under consideration, the position has been filled, or the posting has been withdrawn.
Professional and Scientific and Faculty positions require you to attach a resume and cover letter. You will be asked to attach documents as you go through the online application process. Additional documents may be required per posting application instructions.
PDF documents are recommended. Please note the maximum document size is 5MB. Alternatively, during the application process you can select to manually enter your employment and education history or parse from an attached resume.
Faculty postings will request a list of references including contact information (e.g., name, email, relationship, phone number) to be uploaded as a PDF. For all other positions, references will be requested as needed.
After clicking "Apply to this Job", you will have the opportunity to upload documents. If you select "Autofill with a Resume", you will be asked to upload a resume before you can continue. If you select "Apply Manually" or "Use My Last Application", you will be asked if you would like to upload your documents at the end of the application process.
After clicking that button and completing the Employment History section, Applicant Documents will appear. The online employment site accepts documents in Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format, of a file size less than 5 MB.
Yes, if the position you are applying to requires a resume you will be able to choose which documents to attach when you are in the “Applicant Documents” section of each application. If you have previously applied to a posting at Iowa State University and have used our system to upload documents, the system will give you the option to use a previously uploaded document. However, if you wish to upload a new document, you can name and choose a file from your computer to submit.
Please refer to the Posting Announcement. If a contact person is listed, please address the letter to that person. If no contact person is listed, please address your letter to “To Whom It May Concern” or “Search Committee Members”.
Once you submit your application, you can no longer make any changes to the application.
If you would like to make changes on you application, contact employment@iastate.edu. Applicants can only apply once to a position so please do not withdraw your application if you need to make a correction as you will not be able to reapply.
Log into your candidate home account with your username and password. Click "Candidate Home" and scroll down to "My Applications" to display a list of active and inactive applications. Here you can view the posting and the status of your application. You can also view the documents you have attached for each position.
Once you have successfully submitted your application, your My Application Status will indicate that your application has been successfully submitted. You will also receive an email confirming that you have applied.
The hiring department will generally contact you by phone or email to request an interview. If your contact information has changed, please log into your candidate home account, click on "Candidate Home", scroll down the page and click "Update Contact Information". To change your email address, click "Edit Account Settings" and enter your updated email address.
If you need assistance email employment@iastate.edu. You can log into your candidate home account, to check the status of your application and view the posting. Please note that once the posting has expired and is no longer posted on the website, you will not be able to view the posting language. We encourage you to make a copy of the posting language and save it to your personal files.
